Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I have an MRI showing showing the following: 1. C6-7 level broad disc osteophyte complex with narrowing of the left greater than right lateral recesses and foramen. Mild canal narrowing. 2. C5-6 level tiny central annular fissure without significant canal or foraminal narrowing. 3. Minimal encroachment on the right foraman at the C4-5 level from uncovertebral spur formation. Can you tell me what this likely means is next?
The MRI report shows you have significant cervical spondylitis at C6-7 level also causing narrowing of a hole that carries nerves thus leading to nerve impingement. Osteophyte means new bone formed where it is not necessary thus leading to neck pain and spasms. At C5-6 and C4-5 levels, also spondylotic changes are present but not so significant.
I recommend the following treatment: 1) Pain medications like NSAIDs tab. Ibuprofen or tab. Naproxen to be taken twice daily. 2) They can be combined with a muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone. 3) In case of asthma, bleeding disorders, NSAIDs are not recommended. Then opioids like hydrocodone, oxycodone and Tramadol are effective. 4) Cervical or neck collar is to be worn during the day 5) Physical therapy is advised to strengthen the neck muscles and reduce pain.
If your symptoms don't subside even after above treatment for 1 week, you need to consult a neurosurgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
